1. Go to http://geocities.yahoo.com/ to sign up for an account.
2. If you do not already have an account, click on "Sign up now!"
3. Fill out the required information and click "Submit now!"
4. Write down the user ID and password you selected.
5. Follow any further instructions to sign up.
6. Once you account has been activated, sign out and sign back in again
7. (a) To publish from FrontPage:
   1. Open FrontPage.
   2. Open your web site.
   3. If your index page (the first page that someone will see upon entering your site) is not already named "index.html":
      1. Open your index file.
      2. Click on "File," then "Save as."
      3. Enter the name "index.html" [note that the three letter extension ".htm"—e.g., "index.htm" without the "l" at the end—is not acceptable!]
   4. Click on "File," then "Publish Web."
   5. In the "Publish to:" blank, enter ftp.geocities.com .
   6. Click "Publish."
   7. When prompted, enter your user ID and password.
   8. Follow any additional instructions.

7. (b)  If you have used another program to design your site or would like to use an FTP program, enter WS_FTP.
   1. If the "Session Properties" window is not already open, click on "Connect" at the bottom left part of the screen.
   2. Under "Profile name," enter GeoCities .
   3. Under "Host name/address," enter ftp.geocities.com .
   4. Leave "Host type" at "Auto detect."
   5. Under "User ID," and "Password," enter the appropriate information.
   6. Click on "OK."
   7. On the left hand, either
   8. "Click on "ChgDir" and enter the appropriate directory (e.g., A:\ or c:\mywebs\ ) or navigate to your directory using the green arrow. (E.g., click it until you hit the "root" directory and then click on directories until you hit the one where your files are stored.)
   9. On the left hand side
      1. Click on the first file or directory listed.
      2. Hold down the <SHIFT> key and press the "down" arrow until the last file name or directory is highlighted. The lettered drives below should not be highlighted.
   10. Click on the right pointing arrow in the middle of the screen.
   11. Answer "Yes" when asked if you want to transfer the selected directory structures.
   12. It may take several minutes for the files to complete their transfer.
   13. Exit WS_FTP
8. Your web site address is now http://geocities.com/yourname , where your user ID should be substituted for "username"—e.g., http://geocities.com/larsperner .
